The Wile 55 is a basic tool for farmers for measuring the moisture of grain and seeds rapidly and precisely. It is a proven design and the most popular moisture meter in the Wile range, which is sold in over 80 countries worldwide. It is best suited for rapid field measurements.

The meter measures a high-frequency alternating current conducted through the sample and converts it into a moisture value using the conversion scale of the selected grain type stored in its memory. The sample is compressed in the test cell to make it uniform, which improves accuracy and repeatability compared with open-cell testers. Two temperature sensors – one on the electronics circuit board and one in the test cell – automatically compensate for the temperature difference between the sample and the meter.

For the best accuracy the meter and the grain should be at a similar temperature, ideally within 16–32 °C, and the sample should be representative and kept in a tightly closed container. Always take several samples and use their average, and before harvest compare the readings for your grain type with an oven test.
