AgraTronix HT-PRO Portable Hay Moisture Tester with Probe

AgraTronix HT-PRO Portable Hay Moisture Tester

The HT-PRO is a hand-held electronic probe tester from AgraTronix for checking stored, baled hay. Insert the probe into the bale and the tester shows the moisture of the hay in contact with its stainless steel tip, together with the temperature in °F or °C. Moisture and temperature are shown as live readings instead of one average reading per test.

The moisture scale covers 8.0 to 45 % and is most accurate between 10 and 30 %; readings above 30 % are a qualitative indication of very high moisture. The tester is calibrated on 100 % alfalfa hay, so hay with more grass reads higher than actual. Bale density, sweating after baling and some preservatives also affect the reading, so the result is a practical guideline for safe baling and storage rather than an absolute measurement.

For best results, insert the probe into the tight side of the bale at a 45° angle, take readings in at least five places and use the highest one. The HT-PRO is not calibrated for windrow testing. It runs on a 9 V alkaline battery (not included), has no ON/OFF switch – any button turns it on – and carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty.
