The Lutron FR-5120 fruit hardness tester measures fruit firmness up to 20.00 kg with 0.01 kg resolution and ± (0.5 % + 2 digits) accuracy. Load cell sensor, kg/lb/N units, peak hold, backlit reversible LCD, four tips (3-11 mm) and RS-232 output for fruit labs and farms.
The Lutron FR-5120 is a precision fruit sclerometer that measures the hardness of most kinds of fruit, such as apples, pears, strawberries and grapes, from small soft fruits to large hard ones. Hardness is an accepted indicator of a fruit's degree of maturity, which makes the tester a practical tool for improving fruit quality and for decisions on harvest, storage and transport.
The instrument uses an exclusive load cell transducer and a microprocessor circuit, with a capacity of 20.00 kg and a resolution of 0.01 kg (10 g). Readings are shown in kg, lb or N on a large backlit LCD, with peak hold of the maximum load, zero (tare) over the full capacity and a positive/reverse display. Fruit hardness is calculated as force divided by the tip area (P = N / S, in kg/cm²).
It is suited to fruit research departments, fruit companies, fruit farms, agricultural colleges and universities. The 6 mm or 11 mm tip covers 0 to 13 kg for fruits such as apples, pears, peaches and kiwis, while the 11 mm tip covers 0 to 20 kg for very hard fruits.
