The Wile 200, made by Farmcomp Oy, measures the moisture content, test weight (hectolitre weight) and temperature of grain in a single operation, with results in less than 7 seconds. It uses high-frequency capacitive measurement with automatic averaging and temperature compensation, and its moisture scales are factory calibrated against standard oven-dry reference methods (ISO 712, ISO 665, ISO 6540). Applying weight compensation, the meter balances differences within grain types and the structural variation in kernels caused by the change of season.
Operation needs no force, grinding or compression: fill the transparent hopper on top of the meter, release the sample into the measuring chamber and level it with the patented integrated leveller. The 0.4 l sample gives a representative reading, excess grain is kept by the spill-free design, and no cleaning is needed between measurements. The back-lit display guides the user and warns of any error or potential inaccuracy, so reliable results are obtained even by less experienced operators. Typical moisture ranges are 5–30 % for cereal grains and 2–25 % for oil seeds.
For best accuracy, keep the meter and the grain at a similar temperature, ideally between 16 and 32 °C, and store samples in an airtight container. Before harvest, check that the readings for your grain type match oven-test results, using the user-adjustable moisture offset for each grain if needed, and always average several samples. The number of grain scales and the moisture range may change with software updates, installed through the USB port.
