The Tenmars TM-197 is a handheld gauss/tesla meter that measures static (DC) magnetic fields with N/S polarity indication and alternating (AC) magnetic fields from 40 to 500 Hz. A Hall element at the tip of the plug-in probe covers 0 to 3000 mT (0 to 30000 G) with automatic or manual ranging, and readings are shown in mT or G (1 mT = 10 G).
It is made for industrial inspection: checking residual magnetism after machining of mechanical parts or after stress processing of stainless steel, measuring permanent magnets, magnetic materials, naturally magnetised steel and the motors of electrical appliances, and detecting leakage fields from superconducting magnets. A GO/NO-GO alarm with adjustable upper and lower limits supports good/defective sorting on the production line.
The TM-197 also measures temperature from -20 to 50 °C, stores 200 manual readings and up to 7000 automatic logs, and connects to a PC over USB for real-time recording and for exporting the top 10 maximum, top 10 minimum and average values. It runs on six AAA batteries or on the supplied 9 V DC adapter.
