The Megger DCM305E is a TRMS earth leakage clampmeter with six ranges from 6 mA to 100 A AC and 0.001 mA resolution. It offers a 50/60 Hz low pass filter, a compare function with three pre-set leakage limits, auto, data and peak hold, and a 40 mm jaw. Safety: EN61010-1 CAT III 300 V.
The Megger DCM305E is designed to check earth leakage currents, while its upper range also enables TRMS AC current measurements of up to 100 A. As a TRMS meter it measures both pure sinusoidal AC waveforms and non-sinusoidal waveforms. The instrument has six ranges, 6 mA, 60 mA, 600 mA, 6 A, 60 A and 100 A, with a minimum resolution of 0.001 mA on the 6 mA range, and either auto or manual ranging can be selected.
A typical application is measuring the earth leakage current in a circuit where the RCD keeps tripping out unexpectedly: the result quickly shows whether the leakage current is excessive or whether the RCD itself is very sensitive or faulty. Because harmonics and electrical noise on the circuit under test can give incorrect readings, the DCM305E features a 50/60 Hz low pass filter that vastly improves measurements on such circuits. A compare function with 3 pre-set leakage limits (0.25, 0.50, 3.5 mA) gives a visual indication and an audible warning when the selected limit is exceeded.
Auto hold, data hold and peak hold help with hard-to-read measurements where accessibility is a problem, and an auto-backlight aids viewing of the 6000 count display. The 40 mm jaw allows measurements on both insulated and non-insulated conductors, and a tactile hand barrier / hand guard is built into the case. The instrument is pocket sized, light weight, rugged and easy to use.
