The Delta-T SM150T measures volumetric soil water content to ±3% vol and soil temperature to ±0.5 °C. Its rugged body and IP68 connector allow long-term burial, and its simple 0–1 V output connects to data loggers or to a handheld meter for instant moisture readings.
The SM150T from Delta-T Devices measures soil moisture content and soil temperature. Its sealed plastic body carries two stainless steel sensing rods that are inserted directly into the soil. The sensor applies a 100 MHz waveform to the rods and detects the permittivity of the surrounding soil, which is dominated by its water content, giving a stable voltage output. Patented sensor electronics produce research grade accuracy of ±3% vol over 0 to 70% vol with exceptional salinity and temperature stability, and the built-in thermistor measures soil temperature to ±0.5 °C over 0 to 40 °C.
The SM150T is a dual-purpose sensor. For installed use it is rugged, weather-proof and can be buried: the industrial rated, UV resistant cable with its waterproof IP68 connector lets the sensor stay in the soil while still permitting easy cable exchange or extension. It can be logged by Delta-T GP1, GP2, DL6 and DL2e data loggers and by other loggers through its simple 0–1 V differential output for moisture and 10 K thermistor for temperature. To measure soil temperature accurately the sensor must be fully buried and connected to a data logger.
For portable use the sensor connects to the HH150 readout meter for instant readings, or to the HH2 Moisture Meter when readings must be stored and transferred to a PC. The HH150 and HH2 meters do not read the SM150T temperature. General calibrations for mineral and organic soils are supplied, and a soil-specific calibration can be carried out when greater accuracy is needed. The signal cable is ordered separately.
